RAPID-DEPLOYMENT MULTI STOREY CAR PARKS
The standard methods of construction for multi-storey car parks are the same as the way we build office or residential towers in that the builder occupies the site, sets up site offices and brings all the raw materials to the site.
The United Kingdom and New Zealand have pioneered a new and much more efficient method of construction with 90% of the elements of the car park manufactured off site and brought to the site for erection / assembly. The following photographs illustrate the methodology.

Pre-fabricated car parks can be built out of steel or concrete and have many advantages over standard construction techniques:
1. Cost - typically savings can be 20-30% on a 200 bay car park with a regular shaped and flat site
2. Site access - time on site for a 200 bay car park is 6-8 weeks versus 6 months with standard construction methodology
3. Site disruption - pre-fabricated car parks can be build over sites (like bridges over freeways or railway tracks) with minimal disruption to existing traffic
4. Relocatable - even though pre-fabricated car parks have the same economic lives as those built using standard building techniques 80-85% of the elements of the pre-fabricated car parks can be re-used in another location
5. Appearance - concrete pre-fabricated car parks cannot be distinguished from those built with standard construction techniques - the car park above is a 400 bay car park built in 3 months using pre-fabricated componentry
